Masters Class in Mercury Daguerreotypes with Mike Robinson June 13 - 15

Internationally known Daguerreotypist Mike Robinson will spend 3 days giving the ONLY U.S.A. Masters Class in the how's and why's of producing Mercury Daguerreotypes.

Afterwards, the students will be able to return home, acquire some equipment and immediately be able to not only make Mercury Daguerreotypes but diagnose & correct problems that invariably crop up.

Topics to be covered are plate fabrication and preparation, safe management of the chemistry, particularly bromine and mercury, gold toning and equipment design and fabrication.

Class is restricted to already knowledgeable Daguerreotypists.

Building on his background in a variety of alternative processes, Mike Robinson, proprietor of the Century Darkroom, Toronto, works as a modern master of the daguerreotype, a long-neglected and demanding photographic art which produces a direct positive image on silvered copper plate. By its nature, each daguerreotype is a unique object, an irreproducible edition of one. Robinson's work in the daguerreotype combines a classical sense of beauty with the high level of technical skill required for success in this difficult medium. His unique contribution to the modern daguerreotype has gained increasing recognition, with pieces housed in US and Canadian institutions.

The Zone System Plus! with Richard Ritter & Bruce Barlow July 4 - 6

Bruce Barlow

The instructors follow their passions in creating intensive three-day learning experiences to help you improve your black and white photography.

Richard and Bruce believe in making the technical parts of photography - equipment handling, exposure, and darkroom work - as mechanical and habitual as possible to free the mind for creative expression.

They also have continued to use Fred Picker's foolproof application of Zone System ideas.

Consequently, they currently run three workshop topics: Getting the Most Out of Large Format, The Zone System Intensive, and Peters Valley.

Richard Ritter was the genius behind the Zone VI Camera and a fine large format photographer who has been using large format equipment for 25 years. Richard can repair, rehab, or build just about anything photographic, and can hang photographs with anyone. He is a popular guest speaker and author.

Bruce Barlow has been using large format equipment for 20 years. He was on the staff of Fred Picker's Zone VI Workshop for five years. While he worked at Zone VI Studios he produced the first Zone VI video, "Printing with Fred Picker." Recently, he had a series of articles in “View Camera” magazine on black and white enlarging papers and developers and published an article in “LensWork” magazine titled "Fred Picker's Legacy".
